DESIGN A UNIT WITH ED-TECH...

I DONT' FEEL WELL!

Our suggestion is to create all these activities on the topic of health, and make students work in groups of three and post everything in the course blog:

1.- Presentation: Give instructions about the project with a Powtoon presentation (teacher).

2.- Practise vocabulary about health and illnesses with Quizlet.

3.- Ask for an appointment to the doctor recording a dialogue with Fotobabble

4.- Make a video of the visit to the doctor's with Moviemaker.

5.- Make a short video of shopping at the chemist's with Wevideo.

6.- Write a narrative: I didn't feel well in a foreign country, with anecdotes. Post it with a picture using Issuu.

7.- Make a glossary of the full unit using a Prezi presentation.

8.- Write their opinion and comment in a whole class Padlet.

USING QR CODES IN CLASS

Our ideas: matching pictures and qr codes with descriptions: cities, people, objects ...
We can make qr codes of texts and videos so that students practise skills like reading and listening.

Nik Peachey's ideas:
In the classroom
  • Add QR codes to worksheets and classroom handouts so that students who prefer a digital version can download one directly to their device.
  • At the end of classes create a QR code for digital notes from the class with new vocabulary, errors or interesting expressions that came up during class etc.
  • Create a QR code link to an interactive phonemic chart so that student can use it to work on their pronunciation and use their phone to record themselves.
  • Create QR codes so that students can download grammar reference notes or vocabulary records at the end of a lesson.
  • Get students to scan their timetable directly into the calendar on their phone using a QR code.
  • Make a list of QR codes which link to suitable apps you want students to download to use in class. This will help them to save time searching for them.
  • You can get students to scan images and infographics directly onto their device.

NEW IDEAS FOR NEXT YEAR LESSONS

www.youdubber.com

Find a short piece of a film and ask students to write new dialogues for the characters, using a specific item of vocabulary or grammar, record their dialogue and dub the film segment.

www.powtown.com

Create an introduction to an activity or project, giving the basic instructions. It could be nice too as a presentation of the whole course, with basic contents, objectives and assessment.

www.voki.com

Ask students to make a personal introduction at the beginning of the course. First I'll make my own to introduce myself and then they will make theirs. This will be very useful in groups of students that I don't know, and who don't know me.

FILM ACTIVITIES - THE PRESENT

Answer these questions after watching the film segment:

  1. Was the ending surprising?

  2. How does the film make you feel?

  3. Has your opinion of the boy's character changed?

  4. Does the film have a message?

READING COMPREHENSION / INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

A world leader doing yoga – not your average sight! The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, showed he wasn't afraid to get downward dog and dirty as he joined thousands to partake in International Yoga Day. Stretching and flexing, the Prime Minister along with 30,000 other participants showed that he practises what he preaches. Modi called on the world to embrace yoga, saying it helps people connect with themselves, know themselves better and help boost their potential. He said that nowhere in the world is health insurance available on a zero budget, but yoga is one thing which provides health assurance on a zero budget. And even the United Nations are taking the practice seriously. In 2014, it declared June 21st as the International Day of Yoga. And this year marks the second official International Yoga Day. Participants at this gathering proved that anyone could practise the discipline – even 65-year-old heads of state. Difficult words: preach (teach, say good things about something), embrace (accept something, like it), boost (increase), assurance (when someone or something helps you know that everything will be okay), gathering (a meeting).
